
Last week, I found out a coworker is on leave due to burnout. She doesn’t even know when she’ll return. That hit me hard, not because it’s shocking… but because it’s becoming normal. Every day, so many people are:
• Showing up exhausted
• Pushing through stress
• Pretending everything is fine
Be honest with yourself. Let me ask you:
• Are you constantly tired even after resting?
• Do you feel overwhelmed but keep going anyway?
• Are you losing motivation but acting like you’re okay?
If yes, this could be job burnout and you’re not alone.
Burnout doesn’t happen overnight
Burnout builds slowly. It happens when:
• You ignore your limits
• You overcommit
• You keep saying “yes” when your body needs rest
Until one day… your mind and body force you to stop.
The Dangerous Thought: “I Should Just Quit”
When you’re burnt out, quitting your job can feel like the only escape. And yes, that feeling is valid. But quitting without a plan can lead to:
• Financial stress
• More anxiety
• Uncertainty about your future
Instead of reacting emotionally, respond with clarity.
What to do before you quit your job?
If you’re experiencing burnout at work but can’t leave yet, try this:
- Stop overworking. You don’t need to prove your worth by exhausting yourself.
- Take your leave seriously. Use your sick leave or annual leave to reset and recover.
- Build an exit plan. Start preparing:
• Learn new skills
• Explore career options
• Update your resume - Create financial stability. Save small amounts regularly freedom comes from having options.
- Set emotional boundaries. Your job is part of your life not your entire identity.
A truth you need to hear:
“Burnout makes you want to escape. But your future needs a plan. Don’t quit from pain, move with purpose”.
Burnout is real. Burnout recovery takes time. You don’t have to destroy your stability to rebuild your life. Sometimes the strongest step is to pause, reflect, and move forward intentionally.
